Hunting & Fishing Day
is a U.S. holiday celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday of September. In 2025, it will fall on Saturday, September 27. The purpose is to recognize hunters, anglers, and conservationists for their contributions to wildlife conservation and the outdoor heritage of the United States. It was officially recognized by Congress in 1972, initiated by sportsman and author Ira Joffe in 1970.
In Kentucky
Fish and Wildlife will be present at the Kentucky State Fair (August 14-24, 2025) with interactive displays and educational opportunities. Additionally, September 27 and 28 are free fishing days in Kentucky.
